Is My Story in the Room?

Lecture

Speaker

There are times, in a classroom, where a student's insight from their own experience may illuminate the discussion as nothing else can do. Yet, at other times, personal revelation is seen as embarrassing or inappropriate, or is even viewed as dangerous, while in some contexts students may feel their stories are denied or invisible. Time in the classroom may also be an opportunity to escape or transform a personal story, rather than revisit it. This keynote will explore issues of inclusion through three case studies - including formal classrooms and informal ones - to consider how we can create educational spaces that allow each of us in moving between the particularities of our individual experience and larger communities of knowledge.

The lecture will take place as part of the annual Elkana Conference on Teaching and Learning. For conference participants, no separate RSVP is required.

CEU, CIVICA, and OSUN faculty and doctoral students are welcome to attend the workshop (or conference as a whole). If you are joining just for the workshop, please RSVP to receive the link.
