This workshop aims to raise awareness, discuss responses and share best practices to ensure that all measures taken to prevent and counter violent extremism and radicalization that lead to terrorism (VERLT) are human rights compliant, based on the rule of law, and on democratic values. Further, it will explore how the use of communications technologies can advance efforts to counter VERLT on the Internet.

Among others, the workshop will be led by Kate Coyer, Director of the Center's Civil Society and Technology Project, and lead researcher of the VOX-Pol project. The workshop is a follow-up event to the expert workshop “Media Freedom and Responsibilities in the Context of Counter-Terrorism Policies” held in Bucharest in 2015, will gather more than 100 participants to discuss these issues.
