Tuesday, October 18, 2016, 9:00 am – Friday, October 28, 2016, 5:00 pm

The Human RightS Initiative (HRSI) is pleased to announce its annual AUTUMN FOOD DRIVE!

From Tuesday, October 18 until Friday, October 28 we are collecting non-perishable food items such as canned or boxed food, rice, pasta, flour, sugar, beans, dried fruit etc. During this period, you can place your donation in the plastic boxes in N11 Lobby or in N9 Laptop Area in front of the HRSI corkboard.

We are also looking for volunteers who would like to join us to deliver and distribute the donations to Tiszabura. The trip to Tiszabura is an all-day long activity which will be organized on Friday, November 4. In case you are interested please send an e-mail to hrsi@ceu.edu by Wednesday, October 26 and please indicate whether you would be available for a preparatory meeting either on Friday, October 28. (10.00-10.50) or Wednesday, November 2 (12.40-13.30).

The donations will be distributed in cooperation with Adomanytaxi, in Tiszabura, a small village located in Jasz-Nagykun-Szolnok county, about two hours from Budapest. Most households in Tiszabura struggle with the consequences of the lack of goods providing a basic standard of living. Additionally, the unemployment rate in the village is also quite high, leaving residents with the options of doing communal work or seasonal jobs.

Adomanytaxi is a civil initiative which aims to connect those who would like to donate with those who are in need. They pick up the donations from the homes of the donors and deliver them mainly to smaller villages and towns in the Eastern part of Hungary. They also encourage the youth from Budapest to join their trips and meet with the local communities, experience their struggles and the challenges they face on a daily basis because of poverty.
