Dear CEU Community,
Human RightS Initiative, in collaboration with Allianz Kulturstiftung Europe, has the pleasure to invite you to
Education for a Europe of Rights
International Symposium
DECEMBER 1-2 / 10 am - 7 PM / N15, Quantum 101
rsvp: hrsi@ceu.edu
Abstract / This symposium aims to comparatively examine the state of education for human rights, democratic citizenship and European values in four countries (Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania) in an international perspective and with a special focus on secondary school education. It includes actors from governmental institutions, NGOs, the academia and international organizations to identify the main challenges faces in this field particularly, but not exclusively from the four countries in focus, and to formulate recommendations to policy-makers and civil society actors alike, some of which are to be disseminated through a memorandum. Furthermore, it brings together a group of talented students aged around 18 from the four countries, whom it offers an introductory training into the methods and tools of non-formal education that also foster critical thinking. The symposium aims to empower them to become ‘ambassadors’ of human rights protection and European values of plurality and openness in their environment through an international training and educational experience.
