The Inequalities and Democracy Workgroup of the CEU Democracy Institute invites you to the junior scholars’ workshop.
This workshop opens a dialog among junior researchers whose works investigate various forms of inequalities and uncertainties unfolding among disadvantaged groups across social and spatial spheres. From lower income groups to ethnic minorities, migrants, and refugees, the workshop will tackle the structural and historically formed inequalities and dispossession processes embedded in marketization, privatization, accumulation, and governance regimes. These inequalities not only enforce new forms of exclusions and abandonment but also bring along contradictions and ambiguities that might convey demands for a change. The workshop will bring together ethnographic case studies to explore spaces of hope, mobility, socialization, and claim-making among dispossessed groups. The presentations will be followed by a discussion with the participation of Tommaso Vitale.
