conference | International law, like any other legal system, comes with its imagery and aesthetics: the grand décor of international courts, the harrowing footage of humanitarian crises, the paintings of ambassadors signing treaties… These images are not value-neutral but contribute to our perceptions of how the system works, its promises and limits, its legitimacy and shortcomings.
Moving from these premises, the participants in this two-day event will critically discuss various modes of visualizing international legal processes and institutions and explore their significance for our understanding of the role of international law in different contexts and across different media.
