The Socrates Project and The Department of Philosophy present
For the Love of the Gods: The Euthyphro Dilemma, and Why it Matters
a workshop led by
Professor David Weberman, Dept of Philosophy, Central European University
In this workshop, co-hosted by CEU’s Department of Philosophy, David Weberman will lead a discussion of Plato’s text ‘Euthyphro’. This text features Socrates in his usual impishness and at his philosophical best, discussing religion with his acquaintance, Euthyphro. As an early Platonic dialogue, it is probably closer to the real historical Socrates than Plato's later dialogues. The short text raises important issues about God and our proper relation to God. Yet it is most famous for a question, the so-called Euthyphro question, that has its analogues wherever authorities exercise their power and knowledge.
