The talk will discuss the necessity to redefine the working class, the worldwide precarianization of labor; the importance of subsistence labor; and as a result, a reconsideration of what capitalism actually is.

Marcel van der Linden  is a Senior Research Fellow at the International Institute of Social History; Professor of Social Movement History at the University of Amsterdam; and President of the International Social History Association. He published widely on the social history of labor.
