Human RightS Initiative, together with Sport for Rights, is launching a campaign to mark the 40th birthday of jailed Azerbaijani journalist, Khadija Ismayilova, and to CELEBRATE HER RELEASE. Arrested in December 2014, Khadija has been sentenced to 7.5 years in prison on politically motivated charges and was expecting to be marking her 40th birthday in prison. On May 25, Khadija has been released, however the remainder of her sentence was commuted to a three-year conditional sentence. She will be subject to a travel ban and other restrictions. On May 27, HRSI will have an info table in the Laptop Area between 12.00-2.00 PM, where you can get information on Khadija’s case and on the stories of other political prisoners in Azerbaijan, sign our letter to Khadija for her birthday, watch short clips of Khadija's story, and show your support to other jailed Azerbaijani human rights activists.
