The CEU Center for European Neighborhood Studies (CENS) and

the Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES) cordially invite you to the conference entitled:

Effects of Conditionality and Post-Conditionality on the Quality of Democracy in EU Member States and Beyond

November 8 (Tuesday) 2016

9:00 am –14:00 pm

 Central European University, Budapest

Nádor utca 9, Monument Building, Popper Room

The EU integration process relies on the principle of conditionality in the pre-accession period, considered to influence the quality and functioning of democracy in candidate countries. In turn, (the lack of) post-accession conditionality does not seem to go without an impact either. The participants in this conference contrast and compare experiences of different countries – both EU members, as well as current and future candidates in the EU’s direct neighborhood – with respect to political and institutional changes and challenges occurring as a consequence of EU conditionality.

The present conference continues a series of events launched in 2015, when the Center for European Neighborhood Studies organized its first international workshop dedicated to the challenges and consequences of conditionality in EU enlargement and neighborhood relations.
