Saumya Shukla is an artist of the Indian Classical Dance –Kathak, a classical dance from North India. Encouraged by her parents to learn Kathak at an early age, in 1994 she joined Alaknanda Institute for Performing Arts and started learning under her Guru, Nrityashri Alaknanda, a renowned Kathak dancer, Choreographer, Art Motivator, an alumna of Kathak Kendra & disciple of Guru Munna Lal Shukla& Pt.Birju Maharaj. Since then, her Guru has been her guiding light to discover the technical, expressional & spiritual aspects of Kathak. Saumya holds a graduation degree from Gandharva Mahavidyala, Mumbai. She is a senior dancer in her Guru's dance troupe, 'Alaknanda Sanskriti' & has travelled with her extensively in India, Singapore, Poland, Bulgaria, Bosnia & Herzegovina for performances in her choreographies. She has also given solo performances in various venues in India & abroad.
Saumya is posted as a Kathak Dance Teacher & Performer at the Amrita Sher-Gil Cultural Centre, Embassy of India, Budapest since March, 2016.
