SPP Alumni Career Talk: Working in the EU - European Commission Traineeships

Wednesday, January 25, 2017, 7:15 pm – 8:45 pm

Participating in a traineeship with an EU institution is an excellent way to consolidate and expand professional skills and knowledge while learning about the inner workings of a specific EU body. The application process is long and competitive … it’s important to be prepared. For tips and to learn more about what a traineeship entails, join us for a virtual career talk featuring Fabian Steuer, a CEU student currently conducting a traineeship with the European Commission in Brussels. Fabian will connect remotely from Brussels to share information about the experience of applying to the program and working as a trainee.

Speaker bio: Fabian Steuer is currently on a gap year between the first and the second year of the two-year Erasmus Mundus Master’s Program in Public Policy (Mundus MAPP). He did his first year of study at CEU’s School of Public Policy and will complete his degree at the Institut Barcelona Estudis Internacionals (IBEI) in Barcelona. Fabian holds bachelor’s degrees in physics and philosophy from the University of Goettingen in Germany. Previous to the Traineeship with the European Commission, he gained experience in the German Foreign Service, working with an NGO, and in the development sector. The speaker will talk from his own experience and not as a representative of the European Commission.

A note on the timing of this event: Applications are currently being accepted for five-month, paid European Commission traineeships with an October 2017 start date. The traineeship program is open to university graduates from all over the world. The application deadline is 31 January 2017. Full details and application instructions are available here. Session participants are strongly advised to thoroughly review information available online about the traineeship before attending the session.
