Bringing the Prostate to Work. Perspectives on a gland 1900-1930

This lecture will examine how the prostate came to be not just any gland, but a venue for discussions on norms on normative masculinity, mental health, and sexuality, and also a useful organ for the emerging specialty of urology.

Ericka Johnson is a Senior Lecturer at Department of Technology and Social Change at Linköping University. Her thesis (2004) dealt with the gendering of gynecological simulators. Alma Persson: Persson is a Deputy Senior Lecturer at Department of Gender Studies at Linköping University. Her thesis (2011) dealt with gender relations within the Swedish armed forces. Maria Björkman is a researcher at the Department of the History of Science and Ideas at Uppsala University. Her thesis (2011) dealt with scientific masculinity and eugenic practices in Sweden 1909-1963.
