Digital environments offer new possibilities for student engagement, facilitation of learning, and assessment. We will discuss strategies to engage students and assess student understanding in graduate classrooms with digital technologies. The session will include an overview of how these strategies relate to supportive, formative, summative, and alternative assessment approaches.

Dr. Swapna Kumar is a Clinical Associate Professor and directs the professional doctorate in Educational Technology at the School of Teaching and Learning, University of Florida, USA. She studies the design, implementation, and impact of online and blended learning in higher education. Her recent research is focused on online mentoring in graduate education and quality assurance in online programs. Swapna has published several book chapters and articles in leading journals, details of which can be found at http://www.swapnakumar.com. Currently a Fulbright Scholar at the CTL, she will teach a course on blended learning design and research transformational doctoral learning.
