Athina Iliadou – After obtaining her Law Degree at the University of Thessaloniki and following her specialisation in Human Rights, Athina Iliadou works now as a local coordinator of interpreters for Metadrasi. Metadrasi is a Greek NGO founded in 2010 that focuses on offering translation services in 33 languages and dialects to provide vital communication with refugees, legal support, and certification of victims of torture. Metadrasi has a special attention on unaccompanied minors and separated children and is the only organization that retains a permanent front-line presence in all key entry and exit locations. At the moment Athina Iliadou is based in Thessaloniki, but works closely also with interpreters based in camps of refugees in Northern Greece. During our seminar she will highlight the challenges of interpreters in their daily work with refugees and how their pivotal role obliges them to develop good practices to balance their duty towards refugees and towards the community who welcomes them.
