The conference is organized by the Romani Studies Program and the Tom Lantos Institute and is part of a wider research programme entitled Roma Resistance during the Holocaust and in its Aftermath – Research, Education, Remembrance, aiming to contribute to academic research, awareness raising and remembrance activities in relation to the Roma resistance during the Holocaust.

Working with five researchers, multidisciplinary inquiry has started in April 2017, investigating various aspects of Roma resistance. The aim of the conference is to share and discuss the key findings of the research.

  • Dr. Éva Blénesi (Corvinus University of Budapest, Budapest)– Art, Memory, Remembrance and Resistance
  • Dr. Gergely Romsics (Institute for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Budapest): The Roma Holocaust and Memory Games Agency: Manipulation and Contestation in Constructing Representations of Genocide in Post-1989 Europe
  • Dr. Joanna Talewicz-Kwiatkowska (Jagellonian University, Krakow): Resistance and Survival of the Roma and Sinti in Auschwitz-Birkenau
