Faculty Practitioner Career Talks: Marko Godart Prelec

Thursday, February 8, 2018, 12:45 pm – 1:30 pm

Graduate students hear all the time that they need a plan for their professional futures. At the same time, they must be prepared to take advantage of the unforeseen opportunities that are likely to present themselves along the way. This winter, four faculty practitioners will share their career stories with CEU students. This is a great opportunity to learn about the roles both planning and chance can play as individuals chart their paths.

Bring a Brown Bag lunch and join us for an informal talk about careers and professional life.

Join us for the second faculty practitioner career talk of the winter 2018 series, featuring Marko Prelec, Professor of Practice and Director of the Applied Policy Project at SPP.

Marko Godart Prelec works on societies recovering from armed conflict or state failure. He is a specialist on southern and eastern Europe and an expert on the states of former Yugoslavia. Before joining CEU, Godart Prelec served as executive director of the Balkans Group, a peacebuilding and statebuilding think tank based in Pristina, Kosovo. From 2008 to 2013 he was with International Crisis Group, directing its Balkans project, which focused on Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia, and Serbia. From 1999 to 2008 he worked on transitional justice, first as a research officer in the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and then from 2005 as head of research at Bosnia's office for the prosecution of war crimes. Godart Prelec studied history at Harvard College and received a Ph.D. in modern European history from Yale.
