Transforming Academia: New Tools for Transnational Analysis in Postgraduate Intersectional Gender Research

Roundtable
The CEU Campus
Monday, September 24, 2018, 3:30 pm

In the midst of the current attacks on Gender Studies, which are aiming to undermine its academic legitimization, this round table proposes to discuss the significance of research in the field from an interdisciplinary perspective. The focus of this discussion is on intersectional approaches and transnational perspectives, to be interrogated as productive theoretical and methodological starting points in creating new tools for research across disciplines. Aiming not only to emphasize the novelty within the field, the discussion also intends to open the question of the long-lasting, transformative power of Gender Studies in academia. Starting from the basic assumption of intersectionality that gender cannot be studied in isolation, this discussion will highlight its profound interconnectedness to other analytical categories and (disciplinary) perspectives, pointing to the profound significance of gender perspectives in the knowledge production of contemporary academia.

This round-table is a part of a research and study project New Tools for Transnational Analysis in Postgraduate Intersectional Gender Research - Towards Long-Term International Collaborations in Doctoral and Postdoctoral Training, organized by Linkoping University in cooperation with Bergen University, Western Cape University and CEU, and supported by The Swedish Foundation for International Cooperation in Research and Higher Education.
