PROF. KARPOVA WILL WORKSHOP A CHAPTER FROM HER FORTHCOMING BOOK, COMRADELY OBJECTS: DESIGN AND MATERIAL CULTURE IN SOVIET RUSSIA, 1960S - 80S
The chapter considers the Soviet critique of modernist ideal of an object in the 1970s – early 1980s. After discussing several projects for home appliances, the chapter explains the notion of a design program that answered to the interests of both the state and designers regarding
the optimisation of life in the late Soviet society.
