How might the research on supervision influence our own practices?

Tuesday, February 26, 2019, 12:45 pm – 2:15 pm

Invitation to all CEU Faculty:

In collaboration with Eva Fodor, Pro-Rector for Social Sciences and Humanities, the Center for Teaching and Learning has organized a lunch-time discussion with Lynn McAlpine, Professor Emerita, Oxford University and McGill University. The discussion will focus on the question how research on supervision might influence our own practices.

Abstract:
If you're like me, doctoral supervision is something I very much enjoy. But I don't find many opportunities to talk about it with others. This workshop is one of those opportunities. What I would like to do is draw on your experience and mine as well as the large body of research on supervision to think about how each of us might want to change aspects of our individual practice of supervision.

Lynn McAlpine, Professor Emerita of Higher Education Development at the University of Oxford and Professor Emerita at McGill University is internationally recognized for her research, conducted in the UK, Europe and Canada, into PhD and post-PhD career trajectories both in and outside the academy. She receives frequent invitations to do presentations and workshops that explore the personal, pedagogical and policy implications of her research.

Lynn has been co-author of the following books:

  • McAlpine, L., & Amundsen, C. (2018). Identity-Trajectories of Early Career Researchers: Unpacking the Post PhD Experience. Basingstoke: Palgrave MacMillan.
