This public event is organized jointly by the CEU Yehuda Elkana Center for Higher Education and Council of Europe Education Department. It brings together higher education professionals, policy makers, students and academics to discuss the importance of institutional autonomy and academic freedom to European societies. Building in part on CEU’s case, the panelists will address such issues as the relationship between the two concepts and their limitations, the role of public authorities in higher education and whether the situation of academic freedom and institutional autonomy is indicative for the state of democracy in a given country.
