BIO / Nick Thorpe has lived on the Balkan Route in Budapest for 33 years. He is an award-winning reporter, writer, and film-maker, and Central Europe Correspondent for the BBC. ’89 The Unfinished Revolution: Power and Powerlessness in Eastern Europe was published in 2009. The Danube - A Journey Upriver From the Black Sea to the Black Forest was published by Yale University Press in 2014. This is his third book.

About the Book / The Road Before Me Weeps is about the refugee route through Europe: about those who make the journey, those who welcome or worry about them in transit, those who try to stop them, or exploit them for financial or political gain. The book concludes with the challenges facing those who reach western Europe, and their host societies. This is a chronicle of human bravery, hospitality and cruelty.
