In this talk Professor Plamper will revisit what he considers the history of the history of emotions and map some of the major trends.  He will introduce key concepts and their limitations and in the end speculate where this booming subfield of the historical discipline might go in the future.

Jan Plamper is Professor of History at Goldsmiths, University of London. He edits a Cambridge UP Element series on “Histories of Emotions and the Senses” and is the author of “The History of Emotions: An Introduction” (Oxford UP, 2015). He has also published “Das neue Wir. Warum Migration dazugehört: Eine andere Geschichte der Deutschen“ (S. Fischer, 2019) and “The Stalin Cult: A Study in the Alchemy of Power“ (Yale UP, 2012).
