This work involves gathering information on an area or country, determining the causes and sources of potential risks (usually in relation to investments), reporting findings, and making recommendations. Political risk analysts / consultants / advisors usually possess excellent research and analytical skills, as well as strong communication and writing skills. Regional and/or country-specific expertise is also frequently sought after in this field—as well as the ability to think ahead creatively regarding possible scenarios.

Dr. Otilia DhandDr. Otilia Dhand currently serves as a Senior Vice President with Teneo Risk Advisory and has 10+ years of experience in the field. Her regional focus is on Central and Eastern Europe, including Russia and Ukraine. Dr. Dhand holds a Ph.D. in the geopolitics of Central Europe from King's College, London and has a master's degree in Russian and East European Studies from St. Antony's College, University of Oxford, as well as a bachelor's degree in International Relations and Diplomacy from Matej Bel University in Slovakia. Her previous employers include Eurasia Group and the Economist Intelligence Unit.
