States have reacted with different sets of restrictions to the spread of the COVID19, ranging from mild to severe. Some of these raise issues under international human rights law. As the temporal horizon of the pandemic moves further into the future, with secondary outbreaks becoming a reality, the choice of adequate restrictions and their legal justification will be a central concern. In the framework of this Webinar, we will discuss a number of exemplary situations (the Indian restrictions, the Hungarian lockdown, the situation for asylum seekers on the Greek Islands and the situation in the Nordics) together with the limitations that human rights law impose on restrictions and their upkeep.
