July 2, 9:30am-12:30pm CET - Introduction to Sentinel satellites by Pablo Vega (Copernicus, European Union Satellite Centre)
Summary
This didactical unit is targeted at non-EO experts. It helps professional profiles without EO expertise to understand how the Copernicus Programme Sentinel satellites can help them.
Objectives:
- Understand how satellites orbit earth and how that impacts acquisition parameters which have an impact on the acquired imagery (nadir and acquisition angle, revisit time).
- Understand how electrooptical sensors operate and what is the electromagnetic spectrum. Review the possible image parameters (spatial resolution, spectral resolution).
- Understand how to download, open and work with a satellite image to provide an answer in a given scenario applying basic change detection and multispectral analysis.
