Description:
2020 is on its way to experiencing the largest recorded demand shock in the history of global natural gas markets. The Covid-19 pandemic hit an already declining gas demand, faced with historically mild temperatures over the first months of the year. Gas consumption is expected to fall by 4% in 2020.
The Global Gas Security Review is the IEA’s annual flagship publication on gas supply security, which provides a quantitative assessment of contracting trends, supply flexibility, buyer and seller behavior, and the evolution of global LNG trade. This year’s review (for the first time) is complemented with an update of the IEA’s global gas market outlook, which incorporates the latest available data into the IEA’s supply-demand forecast, with particular focus on the impact of the Covid-19 crisis on global gas markets in 2020 and 2021.
