Research Ethics, Approaches, and Contingencies in light of COVID19

Roundtable
MENAS roundtable discussion
Friday, December 4, 2020, 3:30 pm – 5:00 pm

COVID19 and the subsequent lockdowns it has triggered continue to have a profound effect on people across the globe. To say nothing of worsening the precarity of Ph.D students and junior scholars’ livelihood, the pandemic has upended many research plans and timelines, forcing many to look for alternative methodologies, prepare contingencies, and shift research focus. This is especially true for those whose projects were field-driven. For this panel discussion, we would like to initiate a space in which we can discuss different approaches to conducting field research in light of COVID. This includes questions related to research ethics, issues of access and reach, digitalization, censorship, and the process of incorporating these contingencies into our writing.
