Values, Rights and Principles in EU Law

The legal categories of values, principles and rights find specific positions in the EU legal order and have evolved along the many revisions of the founding Treaties. 

This lecture will examine the significance of each category in EU law and their mutual relationships, also in the light of established case law of the Court of Justice of the European Union.

The speaker will follow an academic approach and any reference to pending cases will be strictly avoided.

Prof. Lucia Serena Rossi, Judge of the Court of Justice of the European Union and Professor at the University of Bologna, Faculty of Law.

Prof. Dimitry Kochenovlead researcher of the Rule of Law Workgroup at CEU Democracy Institute and Professor at CEU Department of Legal Studies in Vienna.

Moderator:

Dr. Barbara Grabowska-MorozResearch Fellow at the Rule of Law Workgroup at CEU Democracy Institute.

The event is co-organized with RECONNECT a four-year multidisciplinary research project on ‘Reconciling Europe with its Citizens through Democracy and the Rule of Law’, aimed at understanding and providing solutions to the recent challenges faced by the European Union.
