Conference on Restitution of African Art with the in-person attendance of Achille Mbembe

Conference
Conference
Wednesday, August 31, 2022, 9:00 am – Friday, September 2, 2022, 9:00 pm

Conference hosted by CEU’s Community Engagement Office in cooperation with AFRIEUROTEXT and Fresh Black Austrian Lifestyle Magazine.

The currently controversial issue of the return of stolen African art treasures represents an opportunity for a differentiated and differently articulated dialogue between Africa and Europe, based on mutual respect. Art treasures from African countries that are held hostage in European and Austrian museums represent one dimension of the cultural DNA of African societies. The top of contemporary African thinking will meet from August 31 to September 2, 2022, in Vienna to design possible solutions, including a position paper with recommendations for Austrian and European decision-makers from the perspective of the African diaspora in Austria.

The conference program is available HERE. Please register at office@afrieurotext.at
Note that on 31 August the conference takes place at AFRIEUROTEXT (Lassallestrasse 20/3) while on 1-2 September all events take place at the CEU Auditorium (Quellenstrasse 51).
