Between Aspiration and Intent: Strategies for Developing as a University Teacher

Workshop
faculty teaching
Thursday, September 29, 2022, 3:30 pm – 5:00 pm

Inaugural Workshop in the Series, Teaching in Higher Education for University Faculty, Workshop Series, with Gabriela Pleschová (Bratislava) and Michael Kozakowski (CEU) - Thursday, September 29, from 3:30 - 5:00 pm in QS A-101 and online. RSVP required.

The Teaching in Higher Education for University Faculty is a pilot workshop series, building off of the long-standing occasional workshops hosted by the former Center for Teaching and Learning and the Recently Joined Faculty Group. Now, open to all faculty interested in developing their teaching skills, and adopting a structured approach, this workshop series meets every other week during fall and winter terms. It combines facilitated workshops on distinct topics, sharing of experiences and practices among faculty members, and opportunities for comradery and exchange. The workshop series is open to CEU faculty, academic staff, and postdoctoral fellows. Participants may choose to attend individual workshops, enroll as part of a teaching certification option, or, by default, to attend the workshops as a structured series of conversations.

In this inaugural session, we reflect on who we are as teachers in higher education and what we aspire for - as individuals and as a university. We will collectively explore several common models and concepts that shape thinking about the development and growth of academics. These concepts, which we will use over the coming weeks, also can identify concrete steps we can take as we explore and seek to develop our teaching.
