ABSTRACT:

The presentation consists of a short history of antitrust enforcement in the EU with a focus on the role of economics.

BIO:

Helena Malikova is a European Union civil servant in the Directorate General for Competition (DG COMP) at the European Commission. She currently leads the work at the competition directorate's Chief Economist Team to establish financial data analysis capability to complement and enhance the team's expertise in theoretical economics. Prior to this, Helena led the investigation under European State aid rules into the tax planning practices of multinational corporations. Helena practiced competition policy across the broad spectrum of European antitrust enforcement. Helena started her career with Société Générale and Credit Suisse as a Foreign Exchange (FX) sales trader, and she is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). She earned her Masters in Economics from the College of Europe in Bruges. Helena is a Fellow at Hertie School Berlin and has previously been an EU Fellow at the University of Berkeley, California.
