If you research topics related to democracypolicy or social movements, join this meeting, where researchers from BRRIDGE (Horizon Europe Project) will present their new initiative Democracy Living Lab and you'll learn how you can be involved and benefit your research and network.

ABOUT / Since autumn 2022, CEU’s Department of Public Policy is part of the EU-funded Horizon 2020 project BRRIDGE that will twin the Matej Bel University (UMB) in Slovakia with the Central European University, the European University Institute in Florence (EUI) and the National University of Ireland, Galway, to strengthen research capacities in the field of democracy and policy, and contribute to a deeper understanding of the current democratic disconnect. This focus opens up many possibilities for joint research projects in the field of democracy research between scholars and students of the four universities.

BRRIDGE focuses on strategic networking, building capacities, strengthening excellence in research and fostering democracy through community and policy engagement. As a core part of this, the project will establish a Democracy Living Lab in the Banská Bystrica Self-Governing Region in Slovakia. Here, activists, member of initiatives and social movements, as well as academics and researchers shall meet and benefit mutually – be it by discussing movement strategies, be it by undertaking empirical research with questions of democracy, participation, or social movement studies. For researchers with an interest in CEE social movements, activism, civic participation, party-movement relationships, and democracy development, this presents opportunities for regional or European comparison or cooperation with Slovakian scholars.
