The Department of Medieval Studies was formed in 1993 with 40 students, and was accredited by the University of the State of New York in May 1994. In that first year, members of the Department participated in the First International Medieval Congress in Leeds, UK, and went on field trips to Western Hungary, Austria, "Great Moravia," Southern Bohemia and Prague.
To celebrate our 30 year anniversary, on Wednesday 14, Thursday 15 and Friday 16 June 2023, the Department of Medieval Studies at CEU will host an interactive event in the campus auditorium, inviting the Viennese and wider academic community, alongside our alumni and friends of the department, to explore, debate and discuss topics that have engaged us in the past, continue to intrigue us now, and hold promise for the future.
