ABSTRACT / Violence is the primary concern in many parts of the world. In Mexico, for example, two out of three people consider insecurity as the most relevant issue in their country. Despite the relevance of insecurity, there are still many gaps between what is observed regarding crime and its byproducts, such as fear. I will briefly present some advances that complex systems have contributed to our understanding of violence.
