Thursday, February 22, 2024, 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm

OSUN's GeoHub project is inviting you to join a talk by Daniyar Karabaev from the American University of Central Asia (AUCA) on the sustainable nomad lifestyle of Sarykol Kyrgyzs.

The Eastern Pamir attracts the attention of external researchers in many aspects, and Western scholars have been significantly contributing to this field. Sarykol Kyrgyzs have been living in the territory of Tajikistan since ancient times and their historical and nomadic lifestyle is closely connected to the Eastern Pamir, to its climate and nature. They had developed a special and sustainable way of nomadic existence as a response to harsh and difficult climate conditions. Thus, this guest lecture will focus on nomadic sustainable approaches and existing ecological problems.

The presentation, delivered as part of the OSUN's Network Collaborative Course 'Intro to Geospatial Analysis,' will be accompanied by a discussion on potential GIS solutions that could support this research.

Daniyar Karabaev is an Assistant Professor and Chair of the Liberal Arts and Sciences Department of AUCA, Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic.
