ABSTRACT / Climate-economic models play a crucial role in helping us think about the transition of our economies towards carbon-neutrality. As evidence accumulates, it becomes increasingly clear that the complex network of supply chains that underpins our economies significantly influences economic development and the spreading of economic shocks. However, these aspects have been largely overlooked in existing economic models. In this presentation, I will delve into the economics of climate change and illustrate how modelling firm-level production networks can facilitate the development of more effective strategies for decarbonization.

BIO / Johannes Stangl has been a PhD candidate at the Complexity Science Hub Vienna since February 2022. He received a bachelor’s degree in physics and a master’s degree in computational science from the University of Vienna and is passionate about working on evidence-based solutions for the climate crisis. His research interests therefore focus on understanding and modelling the green transition in supply chains, energy systems and financial markets.
