CEU is thrilled to welcome John Hewko, General Secretary and CEO of Rotary International, for a discussion on international development, executive leadership in the third sector, and his remarkable career journey. You will gain valuable insights into leadership within a global context and explore emerging trends that are shaping the future of international development.

This event is in person only, on campus in Vienna, for current CEU students and alumni.

John Hewko brings extensive expertise in international development and diplomacy. Previously serving as Vice President for Operations at the Millennium Challenge Corporation, he led negotiations for assistance agreements across Africa, Asia, South America, and the former Soviet Union. John’s background also includes roles as an international partner at Baker & McKenzie, where he facilitated corporate transactions in emerging markets, and as a charter member of the first Rotary club in Kyiv. He holds degrees from Harvard, Oxford (as a Marshall Scholar), and Hamilton College, and has contributed widely to political and business discourse on global issues.

Rotary International is a global humanitarian organization renowned for its commitment to service and community impact. With over a century of history, Rotary boasts a diverse membership of volunteers united by the motto "Service Above Self." Through its extensive network of clubs worldwide, Rotary addresses pressing issues spanning poverty, disease eradication, access to clean water, education, and peacebuilding. John leads a diverse staff of 800 at Rotary International’s World Headquarters in Evanston, Illinois, USA, and seven international offices.
