Academia at war

Roundtable
Program
Monday, July 22, 2024, 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm

On July 22, the roundtable "Academia at War: Living with Risks to Life, Personal Liberty, and Freedom of Speech" will take place at the Auditorium at CEU, Vienna. This event is part of the newly launched project "Protecting Academia at Risk: Towards a New Policy Agenda for a Thriving Culture of Higher Education in Europe". Chaired by Elmar Pichl, the Director General of Higher Education at the Austrian Federal Ministry, this event will address the profound challenges facing the European academic landscape. The discussion will focus on the critical issues arising from political, social, and economic upheavals that impact academia. With contributions from partner institutions such as the Central European University, University of Erfurt, London School of Economics, and the National University of Political Science and Administrative Studies in Bucharest, the event aims to develop strategies to strengthen the resilience of the academic environment. It will tackle growing concerns over democratic backsliding, the displacement of academics, and threats to academic freedom.

The project is generously funded by the Gerda Henkel Stiftung.
